The 2021 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is the most reticent and searingly tannic of Piero Benevelli's young 2021 Barolos. Iron, white pepper, chalk, incense and dried herbs are all beautifully delineated in the glass. The tannins are fine-grained yet incredibly persistent, with driving tension that extends the bright, saline finish effortlessly.

This is a gorgeous set of 2021 Barolos from Massimo Benevelli. I see a bit more refinement in the 2021s, especially in their tannins. The Barolos were fermented in stainless steel, with time on the skins reaching 70 days. Alcoholic fermentation, submerged cap maceration and malolactic fermentation all took place within that time. The Barolos were racked into casks in December and January. Time in wood was about 30 months for the Ravera and Mosconi, while the Le Coste saw an extra four months in cask.
