The 2021 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, tightly wound wine. Then again, this is Mosconi. Dark-toned fruit, iron, incense, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs stain the palate as this young, classically austere Barolo makes itself felt. This really opens beautifully on the finish. Readers will have to give this time. Impressive.

This is a gorgeous set of 2021 Barolos from Massimo Benevelli. I see a bit more refinement in the 2021s, especially in their tannins. The Barolos were fermented in stainless steel, with time on the skins reaching 70 days. Alcoholic fermentation, submerged cap maceration and malolactic fermentation all took place within that time. The Barolos were racked into casks in December and January. Time in wood was about 30 months for the Ravera and Mosconi, while the Le Coste saw an extra four months in cask.
