The Rosset Terroir 2021 Vallée d'Aosta Chardonnay 770 ages in French oak, ferments on ambient yeasts and sees partial malolactic fermentation. The bouquet is buttery and rich with exotic fruit, mango, papaya, pineapple and sweet creamy sensations. You get a nice balance of fruit, cream and oak on the bouquet. It shows good depth too, with a drying mineral note of slate or flint. The wine could take more acidity, but it remains balanced throughout. Production is limited to 3,000 bottles.
This is one of my favorite producers from the mountainous Italian Valle d'Aosta region; it makes wines of unique character. Rosset Terroir has recently planted one hectare of Pinot Grigio in order to increase its white wine offerings.
