With only a handful of producers in this part of Piedmont focused on the variety, the Gian Luca Colombo 2024 Langhe Pinot Nero shows a dark ruby hue and remains remarkably faithful to the natural perfume of the grape. There are lifted aromas of lilac, sweet redcurrant, earth and blood orange. There is no mistaking this for anything but Pinot Nero, and the wine's lightweight yet firmly structured mouthfeel reinforces that impression. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards between Sinio and Dogliani at 530 to 550 meters above sea level, with half the fruit fermented as whole clusters, this is a successful release of 7,000 bottles that highlights precision and brightness while finishing with a touch of sweet ripeness.
